MSG - Round 2 - Results
- 26 May, 2024
On Thursday night an elite field of 9 made a breakaway start from Goat Cycles. It was a hot and heavy push up the Elevator and Rapaki track to control point 1. Mediocre competitor Odin Woods made a tactful advance for pole position with a shotgun beer putting him in the lead. This was short lived as once again controversial competitor Max Hides snatched the lead.
The ranks widened as riders tackled the Castle Rock descent and then onto the queen stage, bullshit round the back of the gondola.
A push from the rear up to Broadleaf had the majority of the field fiending for the next hydration control point. Outstanding sportsmanship again displayed by current MSG leader Phillip Shorley and seasoned athlete Richard Craig, both opting for 440ml cans to level the playing field. Further cycle jousting jostled the positions as riders took strategic advantage of the terrain down John Britten reserve towards the king stage, Craigieburn Lane.
The field entered attack mode and started making moves, Max Hides being passed after a mechanical then making an amazing recovery only to unfortunately receive a 15 minute time penalty for unsportsmanlike behavior regarding talks of KOMs mid ride. It was tight racing along the river track to the pub and the final sprint down Tennyson to Moon Under Water separated the mediocre from the middling. However, an unconfirmed number of the groupetto appears to have left the intended course entirely, a full investigation is now pending regarding this misconduct, retribution will be had.
Taking this into account it was shaping up that young Max Hides would take the top position he had been yearning for, even with his previous time penalty. However MSG adjudicators were passed on information that Max Hides had in fact been drinking alcoholic “flavored” beverages during the event. This is in direct violation of section 2.13, article 2 of the events rule book.A further 15 minute time penalty is to be imposed.
This by default put recovering racer Melanie Blomfield in lead position tied with Phillip Shorley on overall points. Another tight yet controversial round of MSG. Look forward to seeing you all at the next round.
